Google has upgraded its NotebookLM AI tool to generate fully animated "cinematic" videos from a user's notes and research, moving beyond simple narrated slideshows. The feature uses a combination of Google's AI models, including Gemini 3 and Veo 3, to determine the narrative and visual style automatically.
This update is part of a series of recent AI video advancements from Google, following upgrades to its Veo model and the demonstration of a new "Project Genie" video generator. The cinematic video feature is available now but is limited to English, requires a Google AI Ultra subscription, and has a cap of 20 videos per day.
The main topics covered are the new cinematic video feature in NotebookLM, the underlying AI technology enabling it, its place within Google's broader AI video developments, and the current availability and limitations of the feature.
Google’s NotebookLM can now turn users’ research and notes into fully animated “cinematic” videos, going a step further than the original video overview feature Google introduced last year.

Previously, video overviews could only generate narrated slideshows, but the upgraded video overview feature uses a combination of Google’s AI models, “including Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro and Veo 3,” to generate animated visuals based on the content of users’ notes. Google says Gemini “determines the best narrative, visual style and format, and even refines its own work to ensure consistency” when generating the videos.
This is the latest in a string of recent AI video updates from Google. Last month, Google upgraded its Veo AI video model and expanded access to Flow, its AI video generating tool. Google also recently demoed a new “Project Genie” AI video generator that Verge reporter Jay Peters was able to use to make short knockoff slices of Nintendo games.
Cinematic video overviews are available in NotebookLM starting today, but are currently only available in English for users over 18 with a Google AI Ultra subscription. Users can also only generate a max of 20 cinematic video overviews per day.
