A new workstation from HP has a case that can expand to fit new GPUs when they release in the future. The system, the HP Z8 Fury G6i, has two side panel options. A standard option, and a "Max" panel that increases the internal volume of the PC by 15% and adds more active cooling.
While GPUs have been getting larger, they typically get longer or take up more slots. That being said, representatives at HP's Imagine 2026 event today told me that they've had customers who have taken dremels to older cases to make room for workstation cards.
The Z8 Fury G6i case is tool-free, so all that swapping the Fury's side panel requires is pressing a button, pulling the original door off, and placing a new one on (those extra fans don't need a cable; they attach with pins).
Article continues belowThe Fury allows for up to four Nvidia RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q Workstation Edition GPUs and Intel Xeon 600-series processors up to the Xeon 698X, along with 16 DIMM slots for DDR5 ECC memory, 10 PCIe slots of varying lanes and speeds. There's also an 5.25-inch bay and two internal 3.5-inch bays, along with three SATA ports. This is for advanced workstation, AI, and simulation, not gaming.
While there are handles to carry the system, most enterprises will likely rack-mount these in a server room. Panels come on the top and bottom to attach the rails.
There doesn't appear to be any intent to bring this idea over to HP's consumer or gaming desktops (including it's HyperX gaming brand, which has refreshed gaming systems announced today under the Omen label). But top-end graphics cards like Nvidia's RTX 5090 in gaming rigs can be quite large, so it's possible some DIY builders may want a little more room for fresh air in their case (and, possibly, bigger future graphics cards.)
There's no pricing for this system yet, but it's set to be released in April, so it can't be too far away.
