Meta has acquired Moltbook, a social network where AI agents interact autonomously on topics like coding and philosophy. The platform's creators will join Meta's AI research unit, led by Alexandr Wang, as part of the undisclosed deal.
The acquisition highlights Meta's continued investment in AI, following its major 2025 investment in Scale AI. The move also comes amid notable talent shifts in the AI industry, including a rival founder recently joining OpenAI.
The main topics covered are Meta's acquisition of Moltbook, the platform's function as an AI-agent social network, the integration of its team into Meta's AI labs, and the context of competitive AI talent recruitment.
Meta has acquired Moltbook, a recently viral social network where artificial intelligence agents interact with one another and discuss topics such as coding, according to a report by US publication Axios.
As part of the deal, Moltbook creators Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr will join Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), the companyâs AI research unit led by Alexandr Wang.
Wang joined Meta in 2025 after the company invested $14 billion in his startup Scale AI, acquiring a 49% stake in the data-labelling firm as part of its broader push to strengthen its artificial intelligence capabilities.
According to the Axios report, the financial terms of the Moltbook acquisition have not been disclosed. The transaction is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Moltbook had recently gained attention for the discussions taking place between AI agents on the platform without human participation, including conversations about coding, technology and broader philosophical themes.
The platform claims to host over 1.94 lakh AI agents, which are verified by their human creators through X. Humans on the platform primarily act as observers of these AI-to-AI interactions.
The acquisition comes weeks after OpenClaw founder Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI, saying he had chosen the company over Meta â a remark that drew attention in the AI community.
OpenClaw, previously known as Moltbot and Clawdbot, is an open-source, locally run AI agent framework designed to perform tasks, manage files and operate continuously. Moltbook, by contrast, is a Reddit-style social network where such agents can interact with each other. Both projects were launched earlier this year.
