WordPress.org has launched a new in-browser tool at my.WordPress.net that allows users to build a private website without needing an account, hosting plan, or domain. The tool is designed for private activities like drafting, journaling, and experimenting with plugins, not for public traffic or discovery.
All data created within the workspace remains locally in the user's browser and is not uploaded to any server. The tool is built on WordPress Playground technology, offers about 100MB of storage, and includes various pre-loaded plugins for users to test.
The main topics covered are the launch of WordPress's new private, in-browser website builder, its intended uses, and its technical specifications regarding privacy and storage.
WordPress.org is launching a new tool that lets you create a private website directly in your browser, according to an announcement on Wednesday. You can access the tool by heading to my.WordPress.net, which opens up a workspace where you can start building a website without signing up to WordPress, choosing a hosting plan, or selecting a domain.
WordPress launches an in-browser website creator
You don’t need a WordPress account or host to create a private site in your browser.
You don’t need a WordPress account or host to create a private site in your browser.
As noted by WordPress, the private sites created using its in-browser workspace “aren’t optimized for traffic, discovery, or presentation.” Instead, WordPress positions the tool as a way to create a private environment for creating drafts, journaling, and research, as well as for experimenting with plugins, themes, and features. WordPress says that all my.WordPress.net data stays in your browser and “is not uploaded anywhere.”
The workspace is built on WordPress Playground, the same tool that creates WordPress demos. Its storage starts at around 100MB, and offers a variety of plugins you can play around with, such as a personal RSS reader, a customer relationship management tool, and an AI-powered assistant.
