Chip veteran KC Ang has resigned from his role as president and head of Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM) which he took on in April last year, sources close to the matter told ET.
Ang was a key figure in the company's semiconductor journey as he was vested with spearheading Tata Electronics' foundry operations and was to play a key role in positioning TSM as a global leader in chip manufacturing.
âKC Ang moved on from his role at Tata Electronics in December 2025 due to personal reasons and family commitments," a Tata Electronics spokesperson confirmed in an email statement to ET.
The spokesperson went on to thank Ang for his contributions and said the company has a strong leadership bench to power its operations.
TSM is putting together two large semiconductor projects in the country -- a Rs. 91,000 crore chip manufacturing fab in Gujarat and a Rs. 27,000 crore chip assembly plant in Assam. The production is expected to start sometime later this year.
"We have a strong leadership team with deep semiconductor domain expertise from 10+ countries and prior experience with leading semiconductor companies to drive our operations on the ground," the spokesperson said.
Prior to his stint at Tata Electronics, Ang was president â Asia and chairman â China at Global Foundries, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, where he served for over fifteen years and has over three decades of experience.
Some industry insiders said that KC Ang is a veteran in the chip industry and his appointment was viewed "as a big get." An industry official who did not wish to be named said, "It gave confidence and comfort, especially to global players, about Tata Electronics scaling India's chip making ambitions with top talent. Having someone with his expertise will be crucial as the fab enters a critical stage now as the plans start taking a more concrete shape."
Another person said that while he didn't believe there would be much of an impact of Ang's departure, he highlighted that it was important for the firm to either elevate someone internally or hire someone experienced outside in order to fill in Ang's shoes as it was necessary to have someone to oversee the different functions that go into building a fab.
âWhile there could be a short-term impact owing to KC Angâs departure, I do not see it as being a structural challenge," Prabhu Ram, vice president, industry research group at Cyber Media Research told ET. "Tata Electronics would have put systems in place to deal with such transitions. Leadership changes are common globally, and the company has a strong team that should be able to bridge the gap until a successor is appointed. It is an important role, particularly at a time when the fab is moving toward scale, and they should look for someone with the right experience and expertise to steer the company effectively.â
